Unlike prior collagen products, Evolence requires no overcorrection and removes the guess work from the injection process. It is cross linked using the natural sugar, D-ribose, to improve durability.
Patients are going to like the natural correction and minimal bruising, and if indeed Evolence lasts up to a year, it may dominate the collagen market. Artefil and Sculptra are longer lasting, but have to be injected repeatedly, are more costly, and are not natural like collagen. Some Muslim or Jewish patients may eschew Evolence based on its porcine origin. While it is unlikely that it will displace some of the other fillers, it will be yet another choice for patients in terms of durable and safe soft tissue augmentation.
What is Juvederm?
A. Juvederm is an injectable dermal filler from Allergan that contains cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA). It recently became approved by the FDA for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of facial lines and folds. The non-animal sourced HA in Juvederm is produced by Streptococcus equi, a type of bacteria.
How is Juvederm different from other dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid?
A. Juvederm contains the highest concentration if hyaluronic acid currently in a filler. This, combined with HA cross-linking, has been hypothesized to increased longevity. Juvederm's propriety manufacturing process yields a single-phase homogenous gel that is smoother in consistency than other HA fillers, which utilize a gel-particle suspension. The smoother injection characteristics of Juvederm allow use of thinner needles and less pressure to inject.
What are Juvederm's contraindications?
A. Juvederm should not be used on patients with a history of severe allergies. It has not been studied in pregnant or lactating women.
How long does Juvederm last?
A. After reviewing all the data and experience of practitioners involved, it was determined that Juvederm may last six to twelve months, depending on formulation used and placement site.
Sculptra™ is known as the "liquid facelift". Sculptra™ is an injectable product that restores and corrects the signs of facial fat loss by replacing lost volume. Facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, is the loss of fat beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. Sculptra™ provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. Patients are able to safely and non-surgically receive the benefits of traditional facelifts through the product's effect of plumping up the skin.

There are many variations on this type of face lift technology, but only Contour Threads are FDA approved for thread face lift.
