Rhinoplasty recovery has two phases. The initial phase after surgery is very quick. Because we use precise, ultrasonic instruments, we avoid the classic way of breaking the bone, and recovery is much faster and with less pain. Most people report very little pain and swelling after surgery.
- Quick recovery
- You go home after surgery.
- No nasal packing
- Splint for one week
- No strong pain medication is needed
Dr. Kassir will give you specific instructions on what you should and should not do during your recovery period.
Recovery times vary from person to person but are short. It is important to take it easy for the first few days after surgery and refrain from strenuous activities. You will go home the same day after surgery. A splint and tape will stay in place over your nose for one week. The next day, you might have some discomfort; over-the-counter pain medication will help. Your splint will be removed after one week, and you can resume light activity.
The second phase involves skin swelling, lasting several weeks to several months. After rhinoplasty surgery, the skin will be swollen and will gradually decrease. The healing period will vary because every patient’s skin has different thicknesses and properties.
Dr. Kassir will give you specific instructions on what you should and should not do during your recovery period.
If your rhinoplasty involves significant changes to the structure of your nose, you may experience temporary hoarseness or a change in the pitch of your voice. These effects are usually temporary and will resolve on their own within a few weeks.
